A Little About Canada.
Canada is located in North America, just above the United States. Some famous landforms in Canada are Niagra Falls,Lake Ontario, Lake Erie and the Canadian Rockies. In Canada the two most used languages are English and French. Canada's government is a democracy. The climate in Canada is very cold... last week is was -22 degrees, even though they have four seasons just like us!!! Canada's population is greater than 35 million people . 1.1% of all Canadians are Jews. There were a lot of famous Jewish people in Canada. A couple famous people were Celine Dion, a famous singer, Wayne Gretzky, a hockey player, Mario Lewieux a hockey player, Drake a rapper and Howie Mandel a comedian. One neighboring country is the United States
Historical events
In Canada there were a lot of historical events. One historical event was on September 15,1922 when Canada refused to support the British war, asserting their foreign policy independence. Another historical event was on July 1,1923 when Canada banned the Chinese from the country. Almost 20,000 Canadian Jews volunteered for World War II. About 40,000 holocaust survivors came to Canada in the 1940s.
Customs.
There are no special Jewish customs in Canada. The Ben's Deli in Montreal Canada was open from 1908-2006 and was the oldest deli in the city. A special Jewish food from this country is Pastrami or "smoked meat". Canada is an interesting country and many Jews live there today.
Jewish Education in Canada.
Jewish education in Canada is the same as in New York... EXCELLENT!!!. There are also many Jewish day schools in Canada including
Edmonton Hillel Jewish students association, The Jewish Academy, And Talmad Torah School. There are also many Hebrew Schools in Canada and they are great just like ours!!
Jewish immigration to Canada.
There was a big wave of Jewish immigration in the 1750's and the 1900's. The reason for immigration in the 1750's was because they where under the rule of French colonizer's. The reason for immigration in the 1900's of the jews was to escape the holocost and have a better life in Canada and you have more opportunities.
People in Canada celebrate Passover the same way we do here in the U.S
Canadian recipe:
Maple Syrup apples
1 cup of unbleached all-purpose flour
1/2 tea spoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
6 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
1/2 Cup sugar
1 large egg
1 cup of maple syrup
1 cup of heavy cream
2 large tart apples, peeled cord and cut into 12 wedges each
And now your maple syrup is served!
